Championing Change and Neuroplasticity

I’m very proud to be part of an organization that champions change across so many different initiatives such as promoting peace, growing local economies, improving education, enhancing health, developing communities, and so forth.  And that’s why I believe my fellow Rotarians are active facilitators in neuroplasticity!

I hope you all find the video as thought-provoking as it is educational and inspiring. No matter what change we pursue – and no matter how difficult – change is always possible.
Neuroplasticity refers to the ability of the brain to constantly change and reshape itself throughout life.  When I first studied neuroscience at the University of British Columbia in the 1990’s, we were taught that the brain was ‘fixed’ by the time we reached early adulthood, something I found difficult to accept based on my own observations.  Thankfully, we now know this is not the case – as you’ll discover in the very inspiring documentary below based on the book ‘The Brain that Changes Itself’ by fellow Canadian Dr. Norman Doidge.  From rehabilitation following brain trauma to the ability to constantly learn and change in ourselves, the potential neuroplasticity affords us is limitless.
