It’s a new Rotary Year! And we have new officers at every level as our new District Governor Jim Bell comments on the D5240 homepage  (http://www.rotarydistrict5240.org):

“As is the tradition in Rotary, we change "management" on July 1st every year from the top down throughout the entire Rotary organization world-wide. Although some may think this to be a cause of concern, it really allows for creativity, fresh ideas and the focus in each club to flourish under the guidance of a new club President and Board of Directors. Indeed, it is truly unique and a source of our strength.”

DG Jim is a Past President of the Rotary Club of Bakersfield Breakfast and a Charter Member of the Rotary Club of Bakersfield Twilight.  He served the District in many capacities, including Assistant Governor and At-Large Member of the Board of Directors, prior to being chosen as the 2015-2016 District Governor.

Born in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Jim currently resides in Bakersfield, CA, with Donna, his beautiful wife of nearly 40 years.  He enjoyed a 30-year career in the television and radio business before retiring in 2012.

Jim has chosen "Enjoy Rotary" as his theme for the year and is doing all in his power to facilitate that!

We are delighted to have this message from DG Jim.

Rotary District 5240 encompasses all of Ventura, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Kern Counties, as well as a small portion of Los Angeles County…The District, with over 3600 members in 74 clubs, is proud to be among the leaders of the Rotary world, continuing to break new ground in accomplishing the Rotary motto of "SERVICE ABOVE SELF”.

The Rotarians in District 5240 are among the most dedicated in the world, ranking eighth in the world in Rotary Foundation giving in the year 2000. Our members have traveled on Rotary programs to every corner of our earth, starting with our neighbors to the south, where projects involving health, education and welfare include building schools and hospitals for the Totonac Indians; providing medicines, blankets, food, fire engines, and ambulances to various areas in Mexico.

Our members have been involved directly, through their contributions both of money and of time, in projects to eradicate polio in India, the Philippines, Africa and Brazil. Many of our members have given of their time and talents to cure sick children in India, Pakistan, Brazil, Ghana, Bangladesh and the Philippines. Our dedication to the youth of our District is expressed in our Annual District RYLA programs, and in our multi-district Annual Interact Symposium.

Our Youth Exchange program is one of the best in the Rotary world. Rotary District 5240 continues to host GSE teams from every part of the globe.
