The Four Way Test

President's Message

Ken Meyer

President 2020-2021
Greetings fellow Rotarians and guests!
Welcome to the Rotary E-Club of One World!

Dear Rotary E-Club of One World,
Dear Rotary E-Club of One World:
Thank you to each and every club member for the Service Above Self that you give in your communities.  It is common in Rotary for us to talk about two different dates.  The first date is when we make our way on to the rolls of Rotary International as a new Rotarian.  The circumstances involved in this first date are numerous. Different paths brought us to join Rotary.  A good friend invited us to join.  We saw Rotary as a way to learn and advance in our employment.  We wanted to be involved more in our community.  Then there is the second date we talk about.  And while the first date is important because without it we would not have arrived at the second date, it is the second date that is more significant and life-changing—it is the date or period of time when we “became” a Rotarian.
For me, I became a Rotarian when some years ago I was involved in Rotary Youth Exchange and saw over and over again youth leave their homes and familiar culture to places abroad and then saw them return months later with greater confidence and a better understanding of their world.
I would invite you to each reflect this week on the experiences you have had in Rotary and when it was that you “became” a Rotarian.  Then take it a step further and make a plan to help someone else become a Rotarian. As you carry out this exercise, I would also invite you to share on our Microsoft Teams site some of your experiences that made you a Rotarian.

A Success Story - of a Rotary Club
in Hanover, Ontario, Canada
After reading our President's message I thought of finding a story that had impacted a Rotary club or a Rotarian and I found one that was very appropriate, as we are revamping our brand and our website.
The Rotary Club of Hanover changed its meeting schedule and structure - with positive results. This is a success story of how change in a Rotary club can help it become more engaged and more active in the community.
