Dr. Bob Skankey a fellow Rotarian presents his work at the
Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital in Ethiopia

To all members of our eclub and other Rotarians around the world,

Robert Skankey attended medical School at Northwestern University and completed his specialty in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of California San Francisco. He spent the majority of his practice in the small town of Ojai, California where he also was a member of the Ojai Rotary club for many years. After retiring from practice in 1997, through Rotary he became active in visiting many developing countries in Africa, Central America, and the Pacific Islands, doing medical clinics. He is the recipient of the Board of Directors of Rotary International, Service above Self award.

While visiting the country of Mali doing gynecologic surgeries, he ran across a number of distressed ladies with vaginal fistulas who had had repair procedures that had failed. Looking to see if he could become proficient in repairing fistulas, he sought training in Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia which is one of the leading institutions for fistula repair in the world. They have reported a 93% short term cure rate. This is their story.

Thank you,
