The Four Way Test

President's Message

Ken Meyer

President 2020-2021
Greetings fellow Rotarians and guests!
Welcome to the Rotary E-Club of One World!

Dear members, visitors, and future members of Rotary E-Club of One World:

This month the theme of Rotary International is “Basic Education and Literacy.”  Many members of our club are involved in this area of focus.  I invite members to share on our Workplace site what you are doing now or have done in the recent past to promote basic education and literacy in your community.

A big thank you to our member Paul Chappell who led our discussion at our most recent fellowship assembly.  He discussed peace literacy.  He made a strong case for the need for everyone to see peace literacy as a core subject that we all learn like our mathematics and language skills.  And since our discussion with Paul have any of you started working on your personal avatar?  In a few years, it will be fun for our club to meet online as an E-Club does but feeling like we are all in the same room together.

In other club news, please review again the following notice that was sent to each of us recently by our Service Projects Committee:

[Please consider strongly submitting a project proposal.  This is your moment and opportunity to do something for your community that is local even though we as members are in many different countries. Note:  Applications are due by October 14th!]

Each year, Rotary E-Club of One World helps fund projects through our International Service grants. But since our members live in different places, we cannot easily come together to work on a community service project. Thanks to a generous donation, our current-year budget includes $2000 dedicated to community service projects. The Board will award grants to meet specific needs in communities where our individual members live.

These grants will help meet community needs while raising awareness about Rotary and Rotary E-Club of One World. We hope they will also encourage fellowship and partnership between our members and a nearby Rotary club, service agency or non-profit. This is an opportunity to bring Rotary’s “People of Action” motto alive.

Four grants, up to $500 each, with projects in at least three different countries.

The grant may be combined with funds from partner organizations or private donors, so long as Rotary E-Club of One World has an active role in the project and is publicly recognized for its involvement.

Any member of Rotary E-Club of One World (other than an honorary member) who is in good standing. Members will apply in partnership with a Rotary Club, government agency, or established non-profit that can act as the fiscal agent for the project.

1. Applications are due 14-October-2020.

2. Board approval will occur in October or November.

3. Projects may start in December 2020 and must be complete by 30-June-2021.

Payment will be to a Rotary club, government agency or established non-profit.

No payments will go to individual Rotarians or to direct beneficiaries of the project.

The application process includes some advance planning and coordination and then

completing an online application form.

1. Contact a nearby Rotary Club, service agency, or non-profit to discuss project ideas.

2. Conduct a community assessment meeting or survey if the project has not already been part of a public needs assessment process.

3. Determine an appropriate scope of work that will fit the available funds and meet the

completion timeline.

4. Prepare the itemized budget and completion schedule.

5. Confirm who the project partners will be, and who will assume each key role in

managing the project (project manager, treasurer, publicity, maintenance, etc).

6. Request an application form from Mac Whyte through Workplace or by email to

The form will be completed and retained online using Google

Drive. If you need help with the form, please contact Mac Whyte or Pat Fisher on the

Service Projects Committee. When the form is complete, send notice to the Service

Projects Committee via Workplace or email.”

THANK YOU TO OUR SERVICE PROJECT COMMITTEE!  You have done a big job in preparing the above notice.  Let’s all honor their work and give Service Above Self by applying before October 14th for the grant funds available.

During our September Fellowship we highlighted Education:
Today we look at the unprecedented disruption of Education worldwide
To all of our Eclub members and other Rotarians around the world,
Our last fellowship as our president mentioned in the message above we highlighted education. During Covid19 Education was disrupted around the world.

Enjoy this program and please stay safe, our thoughts especially go out to the afflicted areas in both California and Oregon where the fires unfortunately continue to devastate lives.
Thank you,

Rotary presents a video message by António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, on the launch of the policy brief on Education and COVID-19.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused the largest disruption of education in history, having already had a near-universal impact on learners and teachers around the world, from pre-primary to secondary schools, technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions, universities, adult learning, and skills development establishments. By mid-April 2020, 94 percent of learners worldwide were affected by the pandemic, representing 1.58 billion children and youth, from pre-primary to higher education, in 200 countries.
