The Power Of Peace - Peacehenge
by Rotary E-Club of World Peace Rotarian Barbara Gaughen-Muller with OWR Member J.T. Turner
A conversation with OWR Member J.T. Turner who is the Founding Director of Peacehenge and Barbara Gaughen-Muller.  Barbara is the president of the Santa Barbara and Tri-County chapter of the United Nations Association.
Barbara was inspired by her late husband, Dr. Robert  Muller, former United Nations Assistant Secretary-General. Barbara will be leading the effort for Santa Barbara, California to become an International City of Peace.  Barbara predicts "we will meet our goal of 1000 cities of peace five  years early in year 2020."
J.T. Turner

Originally from Britain, J.T. came to the US in the 1970s. He is academically trained in Social Anthropology and Clinical Psychology and holds masters degrees from Cambridge, and Fielding in those two fields. His career transitioned from teaching anthropology at the college level to working in behavioral health in the 1980s. He is a licensed Marriage Family Therapist.

He ran a residential and day treatment program in LA before moving to Santa Barbara in the mid 1990s to run Phoenix of Santa Barbara, a non-profit mental health agency.

In 2010 he produced a documentary, Crazy Art, on the role of art in coping with, and recovery from, psychiatric conditions such as schizophrenia. The film won the Audience Choice Award in the Santa Barbara Film Festival, and was screened at the national conference of the American Art Therapy Association in Washington DC in 2011.

He is also an artist, and co-founded the Abstract Art Collective in Santa Barbara in 2011. The association now has more than 100 members and a number of art shows each year, at venues such as the Faulkner Gallery.

In 2018, he transitioned out of the Executive Director position at Phoenix of Santa Barbara to be the Principal of Peacehenge, a project to build and operate a monument to peace.

He has been a Rotarian since 2006. He is also a member of the California Association of Marriage Family Therapists.
