Wade Nomura
 
 
 
This week's program features the host of "Rotary Serving our Community" and Past District 5240 Governor Wade Nomura presenting a historical account of Rotary from its beginnings in 1905.  "Rotary Serving our Community" is a series videos produced by WeAreRotary.TV on numerous Rotary topics as well as community and international projects undertaken by Rotarians and Rotary clubs inside and outside District 5240.
 
 
 
 
Wade and Roxanne                
 
Wade joined Rotary with his wife Roxanne, in 2002 and has been on 34 international project missions for Rotary, including a polio mission to India, where he has a special passion, having had polio as a child. Wade served as Rotary District 5240 Governor in 2011-2012, and during his term as DG, Wade promoted the chartering of the Rotary E-Club of One World D5240 and became our first “Honorary Member.”
 
Wade is the President of the Japanese American Citizens League, Santa Barbara chapter. He was inducted into the Japanese American National Museum "Hall of Fame" during a special tribute to Japanese American Athletes for the 2001 "More Than A Game" exhibit for his accomplishments in the sport of BMX as a multiple National Champion and racing a bike that he designed and manufactured. The Nomura Racing bike has since become an icon among avid BMX collectors.
 
Wade is a Rotary International Leadership instructor, Rotary Foundation Technical Advisor for Water and Sanitation, and Community and Economic Development projects in English and Spanish speaking countries, has served as a Representative for Rotary International Presidents, the 2014 Rotary Rose Parade Float Committee Chair, delegate to the 2016 Rotary International Council on Legislation, and on the 2016 Rotary International Peace Conference Steering Committee. Wade has spoken in districts in the United States, Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Chile, Honduras, Australia, New Zealand, Chile, England, India, Korea, Thailand, Japan, and Canada on behalf of Rotary.
 
Wade is the recipient of the Rotary International "Service Above Self" Award for volunteer service in Rotary and beyond, and the Rotary Foundations "Citation for Meritorious Service" for his work on behalf of the Rotary Foundation.
 
Whether you're new to Rotary or have been a Rotarian for many years, after viewing Wade's presentation you'll be much better prepared to answer the question "What is Rotary?"
