 President's Message - 5-10-19

Greetings fellow Rotarians and guests!
Welcome to the
Rotary E-Club of One World!

In the spirit of Rotary which binds us together to serve above self for the betterment of humanity and the world, let us share the Rotary Four Way Test of the Things we think, say or do; for which in District 5240 (D5240), a fifth has been added:

  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concern?
  3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concern?
  5. Is it FUN?

We are in the second week of May but permit me to take us back to April.  April, 2019 was a particularly difficult month not only for me personally but for our President Elect Ozlem Kocanaogullari, who reside in Izmir, Turkey who sadly lost her father in a very painful way.  Let us all spend a minute or two to console PE Ozlem and by extension her family and pray with them to be able to handle this situation well.

On behalf of your family in the Rotary E-Club of One World and on my own behalf, accept our heartfelt condolences and may the Almighty God grant you and the entire family the strength to go through this difficult moment.

In other news, Rotarian Nii Commey Otoo, in trying to plant trees around his home, cut his palms with the machete he was using and almost rendered his right palm useless (eleven stitches in the palm).  He is currently home and unable to do much with the hand and expected to be home for awhile for the wound to heal.

Between 5th and 12th April, I lost 4 very close family members and shuttling between my place of work and my hometown (over 700 kms) was no joke at all. But in all we thank God for the strength and resilience to move on.

Let us all strive to be each other’s keeper as accidents and incidents are not exclusive to a few. We are all fallible and all of us must take care in our daily routines as age catches up with all of us.

Next week we will come up with an even more interesting program, let us all endeavor to attend and register for our meeting.

Let’s all continue to BE THE INSPIRATION!!!

Yours in Rotary Service,

Amina Sammo
President 2018/2019

NEW RESOURCE: Rotary Basics online course
Basics is now an online course that covers all things Rotary in an interactive, multimedia format. In this new course, housed in the Learning Center, you can meet members around the world, watch videos, and interact with the course to deepen your understanding of Rotary. You can also take a quiz to test your Rotary knowledge. The Rotary Basics online course was designed for new members, but it is also good refresher for long-time members who want to test their Rotary knowledge or even nonmembers who simply want to know what Rotary is all about.

 Program: E-Club Workplace Seminar
The New Workplace Experience

We have been using the Workplace "intranet on the Internet" platform for our E-Club since January 2018 and have found it a great way to connect, communicate and share with our fellow E-Club of One World Rotarians.  Although not all members in our E-Club are engaged, Workplace is becoming popular with more Rotary E-Clubs around the world as a way to get connected and do good in the world through Rotary.

We first learned about Workplace from the Rotary E-Club of Innovation (formerly East Anglia) in the UK.  Our friend and fellow E-Rotarian and member of the E-Club of Innovation , Martin Brocklebank, recently presented a New Workplace tutorial on Zoom for members of the soon-to-be chartered Rotary E-Club of Social Impact based in Australia.

I was unable to attend the Zoom meeting Martin’s demonstration on “The New Workplace Experience” coming to Workplace in July, but Martin sent me the link to his recording to share some of the features he demonstrated.  Martin shows many of the powerful tools available in Workplace and how his E-Club uses them.  He also shares the philosophy of his E-Club and discusses some of the challenges that face all Rotary E-Clubs.  Martin and I are going to set up a Workplace Group to connect our clubs.

Martin not only demonstrates the new look and features coming to Workplace, but how Rotary E-Clubs are making a difference in the Rotary world.

Rotary E-Clubs are really putting the “International” in Rotary International!
