The Four Way Test

President's Message - 6-14-19

Greetings fellow Rotarians and guests!
Welcome to the
Rotary E-Club of One World!
In the spirit of Rotary which binds us together to serve above self for the betterment of humanity and the world, let us share the Rotary Four Way Test of the Things we think, say or do; for which in District 5240 (D5240), a fifth has been added:
  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concern?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concern?
  5. Is it FUN?
Hamburg 2019 Rotary Convention
Congratulations to our Convention Goers!!!!!!!!!
How exciting! PE Nicolette and PE Ozlem together at the Hamburg Convention. Both are from District 5240- only difference is that Nicolette lives in California and Ozlem lives in Turkey. Ozlem is our e-club president. PE Ozlem of the E-Club of One World of District 5240 is a lawyer from Turkey and she was an exchange student and spent a year in the USA. She told me she would love to be in contact with her fellow PEs – Borrowed from IPP Michael’s post.
The good thing is that we also had our PEN Bernie and her husband in Hamburg and also Pat Fisher and her husband.
From the Pictures posted on Workplace, I strongly believe that it was fun and the bond was strong.
Kudos!!!!!!!! To team Hamburg as we look forward to Honolulu next year. Cheers Buddies!!!!!!!
Next week we will come up with an even more interesting program, let us all endeavor to attend and register for our meeting.
Let’s all continue to BE THE INSPIRATION!!!
Yours in Rotary Service,
Amina Sammo
President 2018-2019

June Is Rotary Fellowships Month
June is designated Rotary Fellowships Month to recognize the importance of international fellowship and goodwill among Rotarians with similar recreational and vocational interests, promote increased participation in fellowships, and increase understanding of this program.
Rotary Fellowships are international groups that share a common passion. Being part of a fellowship is a fun way to make friends around the world, explore a hobby or profession, and enhance your Rotary experience.

Rotary announces US$100 million to eradicate polio
Rotary is giving US$100 million in grants to support the global effort to end polio, a vaccine-preventable disease that once paralyzed hundreds of thousands of children each year.
The funding comes as Rotary and its partners in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) address the final—and most pressing—challenges to ending poliovirus transmission, and as Nigeria approaches three years without any reported cases of wild poliovirus, bringing the Africa region closer to polio-free status.

Rotarians unite to End Plastic Soup Now!
Rotarians unite in Amsterdam to End Plastic Soup Now. And on the same day the founder of The Ocean Cleanup, Boyan Slat, receives the 44th Premio de Leonardo da Vinci for his achievements to rid the oceans of plastic soup.

“When I asked Bill Gates, 63, co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, why polio, he began, "Polio is a terrible disease." An hour later, speaking to a group of Rotarians in Spokane, Washington, he said, ‘You know, we're going to get to the end of this and Rotary will be the reason that will happen.’
Before continuing, I must note I am a Rotarian who has occasionally been paid to speak at Rotary events. Even for me-perhaps especially for me-the pairing of the Gates Foundation with Rotary seems unlikely, almost akin to the well-known viral story of the elephant who befriended a dog.
The Gates Foundation has nearly 40 times the assets of the Rotary Foundation's $1.25 billion. While Rotary engages in a variety of global public health initiatives it does not have the expertise of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, the World Health Organization or UNICEF-the three organizations that round out the five key members of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative.”
