The Four Way Test

President's Message - 5-24-19

Greetings fellow Rotarians and guests!
Welcome to the
Rotary E-Club of One World!
In the spirit of Rotary which binds us together to serve above self for the betterment of humanity and the world, let us share the Rotary Four Way Test of the Things we think, say or do; for which in District 5240 (D5240), a fifth has been added:
  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concern?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concern?
  5. Is it FUN?

Presidential theme: 2019-2020: Rotary Connects the World
As we gear up to finish hard on the 2018/2019 rotary year, we cannot simply wait to usher in grand style the 2019/2020 rotary year with our own PE Ozlem in the Driver’s seat.
RI President-elect Mark Daniel Maloney’s theme for 2019-20, Rotary Connects the World, asks Rotarians to strengthen the many ways that Rotary Connects the World, building the connections that allow talented, thoughtful and generous people to unite and take meaningful action through Rotary service.
This could not have been better said than in a club that have presence on all the continents of the world. We hope that in the coming years, we will be adding on new members from new countries as well as increase the members in our already existing countries.
Next week we will come up with an even more interesting program, let us all endeavor to attend and register for our meeting.
Let’s all continue to BE THE INSPIRATION!!!
Yours in Rotary Service,
Amina Sammo
President 2018-2019
Please “Pledge to Sponsor a new Rotarian.”

NEW RESOURCE: Rotary Basics online course
Rotary Basics is now an online course that covers all things Rotary in an interactive, multimedia format. In this new course, housed in the Learning Center, you can meet members around the world, watch videos, and interact with the course to deepen your understanding of Rotary. You can also take a quiz to test your Rotary knowledge. The Rotary Basics online course was designed for new members, but it is also good refresher for long-time members who want to test their Rotary knowledge or even nonmembers who simply want to know what Rotary is all about.

Program: Charitable Giving
As Rotarians we give what we can to The Rotary Foundation because we know of all the good it does aroud the world and because, for the 11th consecutive year, The Rotary Foundation has received the highest rating — four stars — from Charity Navigator, an independent evaluator of charities in the U.S.
The two following brief presentations offer some interesting "food for thought" on charitable giving.
The way we think about charity is dead wrong
Activist and fundraiser Dan Pallotta calls out the double standard that drives our broken relationship to charities. Too many nonprofits, he says, are rewarded for how little they spend -- not for what they get done. Instead of equating frugality with morality, he asks us to start rewarding charities for their big goals and big accomplishments (even if that comes with big expenses). In this bold talk, he says:  Let's change the way we think about changing the world.
