President's Message

Ken Meyer

President 2020-2021
Greetings fellow Rotarians and guests!
Welcome to the Rotary E-Club of One World!

Dear members, visitors, and future members of Rotary E-Club of One World:

Some of you, who have not already had the opportunity, will at some point in your Rotary adventure serve as club president.  You will then go to a presidents-elect training seminar (PETS).  There you will encounter a perfect mix of training, fun, fellowship, and motivation to prepare you for your Rotary year as president.

Pictured below, with what are now the current club presidents for Rotary District 5240, is our current Rotary International President, Holger Knaack.  Maybe you have already read his President’s message in the August 2020 edition of The Rotarian.
Consider studying his message.  How does it apply to you as a Rotarian?  How does it apply to our club? To quote a part of President Knaack’s message as it relates to our changing world that includes “a global pandemic and a renewed call for social justice,” he says:  “We must be ready to listen and adapt, always drawing upon our core values of service, fellowship, diversity, integrity, and leadership.  If we live these values and apply the Four-Way Test to all aspects of our lives, we will be prepared to lead at all times.”

As the Rotary E-Club of One World, we will definitely chart a successful course through these times by remembering to always draw upon our core Rotarian values.

And speaking of core Rotary values and finding motivation as club members to be our best Rotarian selves, this coming Saturday, August 1st, 9:00 AM PDT, at our monthly fellowship assembly, we will be honored to have the visit of our District 5240 Governor, Deb Linden.  Governor Linden (pictured to the right) is an excellent speaker, motivator, and Rotarian.  Please mark this event on your calendar now and make plans to attend.

By way of introduction of this great Rotarian, the Rotary District 5240 website says of DG Deb Linden:

“Deborah Linden is a native Californian, raised in Sunnyvale. She began her law enforcement career with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy Sheriff at the age of 22. During her 18-year tenure at the Sheriff’s Department, Deb served in a variety of assignments including patrol, narcotics detective, major crimes investigations, sergeant, lieutenant, and commander. She was hired by the City of San Luis Obispo as Chief of Police on January 1, 2003 and retired from law enforcement in December 2011 after serving nine years as police chief. Deb is now an instructor and training coordinator for various organizations, including the California Police Chiefs Association and the Centre for Organization Effectiveness.

Deb holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from U.C. Santa Barbara and a Master of Arts degree in Leadership from St. Mary’s College in Moraga.

Deb joined the Rotary Club of San Luis Obispo in 2003. She has served as a Club President, District Conference Coordinator, Assistant Governor, and District Chief Operating Officer before being selected to serve as District 5240 Governor for 2020-2021. She has been married to her wonderful husband Bill for 24 years and they enjoy two adult sons, Trevor and Craig, five year old grandson Koby, and a 2 year old Boxer named Kona.”

As each of you hopefully takes time to consider our RI President’s message and to attend DG Deb Linden’s visit to our club, you will be strengthened in your Rotary journey.  You may have thoughts about what as “People of Action” we can do next together as a club.  I look forward to seeing the great places that can take us in the coming months.  Remember Rotarian's dream big.

Sincerely,

Ken Meyer, Club President 2020-2021
Rotary E-Club of One World

To all members of our eclub and other Rotarians around the world,

Here is the short bio of Balu:
I am Balachandran popularly known as Balu and a new Rotary Eclub Member of One World. I have been an active Rotarian for well of 35 years. Had the honor of serving as Governor of erstwhile District 2980 in 2001-2002.

Pondicherry in South India is where I live. This is a Union territory and was earlier a French colony. I had the honor of being the country chair for an intercountry committee between India and France. Through my club, we have done some projects like blood bank and the first-ever mammography machine along with the Rotary Club of Bordeaux sud (now known as Bordeaux Montague) I am married with two sons and two grandchildren.

My wish is to a project with OWR, District 5240 , District 1690 , Rotary club of Pondicherry Beachtown & District 2981 to help Regional Cancer Center at Jipmer medical college and hospital.

Thank you,
